Why this portal exists
Madagascar is one of the hardest countries in the world to plan well. Distances are long, roads are slow, domestic flights connect only a handful of cities, and much of the information online is either out of date or written by people who have never been. The result is that most first-time visitors either overpay for a package or under-plan and lose days to logistics.
This portal exists to close that gap. Every guide is built around what a traveller actually needs at the moment of decision: which region, which season, which operator, which route is realistic in the time you have.
What we cover
- Destinations — region-by-region guides: Nosy Be, Diego Suarez, Isalo, Andasibe-Mantadia, the Avenue of the Baobabs and Sainte-Marie.
- Operators & booking — how to compare local operators, agencies and driver-guides, and where to stay by region and budget.
- Wildlife & adventure — lemurs, chameleons, national parks, trekking and diving.
- Culture & food — the history, the fady system and the cuisine that make the country what it is.
How we source
Every factual claim is traceable. Where we state a figure, a designation, a conservation status or a seasonal pattern, we name the body that stands behind it and link to the original.
We work with the organisations that hold the primary record — IUCN Red List for species threat status, UNESCO World Heritage Centre for designated sites, KNMI for seasonal climate data, and Madagascar's national park authority for permits and protected areas.
Three rules follow, and we will not bend them for commercial reasons:
- No unsourced figures. If we cannot attribute a number to a body, we do not publish it.
- No source laundering. A booking site repeating a statistic is not a source; we go to the body that published the original.
- No AI-generated filler. Automation assists research and fact-checking. It does not write the guides.
Editorial policy
- Independence: no operator, hotel, lodge or advertiser influences our recommendations or rankings.
- Disclosure: commercial placements and paid listings are labelled as such. Affiliate links are disclosed wherever they appear.
- Inclusions are honestly earned: operators and hotels are compared on cost, licensing, insurance, vehicle standards and safety record — not on who pays.
- Accuracy: prices, permits and travel details are dated and reviewed at least annually.
- Corrections: verified errors are corrected quickly and noted on the page where material.
Affiliate & advertising disclosure
Some links to operators, accommodation and travel services are affiliate links: if you book through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This funds the site and keeps the guides free to read. Sponsored articles and partner placements are always labelled at the top of the page.
